How to make a business card?

In order for the business card to be original and work effectively, it is important to create a high-quality layout for the printing house. Abiprint has many ready-made templates where you just need to enter the data and send the files to print. But you can also create a design yourself.

It is not difficult to create a layout using special online services such as Canva, Vistaprint, etc., or Photoshop. Professional designers prepare files mainly in vector programs such as Adobe Illustrator or Adobe inDesign. Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are not suitable for preparing professional print files. Files created with these programs must be re-typed in a graphics editor.

You can read the basic recommendations for preparing files here. If the finished layout has any flaws, our designers will correct them, so get to work anyway!

What do you need to print business cards?

First of all, you need to know the standards for designing business cards. Otherwise, you can make mistakes and waste money.

What you should not do:

  1. Choose flashy colors. This is not always beneficial. It is important that the color scheme is consistent with what the company or specialist does, is made in corporate colors or matches the company’s brand book.
  2. Try to write as much information as possible. The most basic is enough – no one will read unnecessary data.
  3. Excessive pathos and chic. Some believe that this will indicate the status of the company. In fact, this indicates a lack of taste.

Our company’s specialists will always advise how to make a business card correctly. Some recommendations are below:

  • Standard business card sizes are 90 * 50 mm or 85 * 55 mm. When creating a business card file, it is important to immediately take into account the margin for trim or bleed (usually 3 mm from each edge). That is, the size with a margin should be 96 * 56 mm or 91 * 61 mm, respectively. After the final trimming, the excess will be cut off.
  • It is important to move the background elements beyond the edge of the trim to the outer border of the “bleed” so that after cutting the business card to the format there are no white edges.
  • To ensure that the data is easy to read, try not to place the information close to the edge. The minimum recommended indent is 5 mm from the edge
  • Use the CMYK color scheme. This way, you will be able to see the correct color rendering right away. Monitors display colors more vividly in RGB mode.
  • Your first name should be written before your last name, and not vice versa, so that the person can immediately address you.
  • Do not write the words “Address”, “Phone”, “E-mail” before the data. They will make it clear where the mail is and where the phone number is. You can use suitable pictograms.
  • If the business card is double-sided, then unload the back side. A photo is enough – yours, the main description of the services or product, a route map will do. If there is a lot of text on the business card, then you will have to print it in a small font, which will be difficult to read.
  • Fight excessive ornateness! You can use beautiful handwritten fonts, however, often the most familiar readable ones are the best and most effective option.
  • To ensure that all information reaches the counterpart, leave free space between the blocks.
